Founded in 2019 by Natara Hill,
The Nest LLC has come a long way from its beginnings. When Natara first started this journey, she was a yoga teacher on campus while also a student at UNCC. During her first semester teaching yoga, UNCC changed it’s status from a PWI (predominantly white institution) to a MMC (majority minority campus). Being the only yoga teacher of color on campus at the time, she taught some of the most diverse group yoga classes of ages 18-65+, non-english speakers, different races, lbgtq+, athletes and some disabilities - mostly all in ONE class. Natara was gifted at tailoring class to such a wide variety of participants. To her, wellness was meant to bring everyone together. When she branched out into the community, she noticed there generally weren’t many yoga & wellness spaces nurturing this kind of diverse inclusivity. This is what drove her to create such a space on her own - The Nest, a community wellness center.
Wellness, The Arts, and Community
The Nest has a mission to provide a nurturing space of wellness mainly for minorities by integrating wellness services, the arts, and community. To supplement our wellness services, we encourage creativity as another way to relieve stress and promote wellbeing. Our members are always encouraged to build supportive connections with one another so that they promote our mission statement:
“When ‘I’ is replaced with ‘we’ illness becomes wellness”
